FAQ's from Purflo the Baby Sleep Experts
WHAT IS A BABY SLEEP BAG?
Well that may seem obvious, it is like a sleeping bag for adults but the difference is the babies wear the bag! This small difference is key to there success and that is why sleep bags are so successful. Sleep bags were invented in France in the 1970's for baby's to wear and therefore no longer kicking off the covers and getting cold - as well as they you can keep little one at the right temperature as the bags have different weights depending on where they are and what season they are in.
DOES THE PURFLO BAG MEET BRITISH STANDARDS?
Yes everything Purflo has developed has taken time and been fully tested and comply with all BS - not only on the use of it but also how it is produced and the guidelines for usage.
ARE BABY BAGS SAFE?
Yes they are - using the correct size depending on the size of your baby means your little one will stay at the right temperature all night long. The neck hole which prevents baby from slipping down inside the bag is sized to the right weight of and height of your little one. Additionally it is important to use the right tog rating and correct clothing under the sleep bag - please always read the guidelines.
WHAT SHOULD MY BABY WEAR UNDER A PURFLO BABY SLEEP BAG?
It is very important to read the instructions on what to wear, the best indicator is to touch the back of their neck, if it is hot and clammy then you know that they are too hot - on the other hand babies hands and feet are not an indicator of what their core temperature is. Purflo sleep bags also have mesh panels at the back and under the arm to help with ventilation.
CAN I USE A SLEEP BAG IN A CRIB OR MOSES BASKET?
The purflo swaddle to sleep which is suitable until 4 months old is suitable and will fit perfectly yes.
WHICH TOG SHOULD I BUY?
Purflo have tried to keep things simple rather than brining out lots of togs ratings which parents then feel obliged to buy Purflo have brought it down to two. One is an all season bag 2.5 and the other 0.5 is a high season bag to be worn in high summer or when on hols...The all seasons bags also has removable arms giving you lots of versatility and can be used from 16-22 C. Always check the what to wear on the back and please remember that every brand may differ slightly.
WHAT DOES A TOG RATING MEAN
A tog rating describes the 'Thermal resistance' of a product and is widely used to explain warmth levels of duvets and outdoor clothing. Purflo have two differnet togs of 2.5 and 0.5
WHAT IS THE BEST TEMPERATURE FOR MY BABY?
Health professionals recommend the ideal room temperature for your baby is between 16 and 20. This can feel chilly to an adult but it is the safest temparture for a baby. It is hightly recommended that you use a thermometer, Purflo actually do one...
HOW DO I WASH MY SLEEP BAG?
Please wash at 40C and hang to dry - it can be tumbled dry and a low temperature as well.
WHAT OTHER BEDDING SHOULD I USE?
The only other bedding you will need is an undersheet - there is no need to other sheets and blankets with sleep bags.
CAN IT BE USED FOR TRAVEL?
These bags have a travel feature which means if you want to pop out while baby is asleep then you do not need to wake them up. You can use them in car seat but please always check their harness and change accordingly.
