Dummy or no Dummy?

Dummy Or No Dummy?
The Dummy debate is something that everyone seems to have an opinion on. New parents often consider whether or not to give a dummy to their child. Will it affect their language development? Will they settle without one?
Jack has a dummy. When he was a newborn he suffered with silent reflux which meant that he would be unsettled and would cry for hours on end. I was absolutely exhausted. I was literally rocking Jack up and down my house for hours on end. I decided to give him a dummy. Yes, he might come to rely on it and yes removing it may be difficult but at that point I didn't feel like there were many other options.
I'm surprised at the controversy the dummy creates. Jack would be asleep whilst we were at the shops and people would comment on the fact that he 'still' had his dummy at the age of one. As a mum, I just cannot comprehend people who judge others for giving or not giving their child a dummy.
Jack still has a dummy, not in the day though, only at bedtime. I've been gradually withdrawing it for the last few months and now finally have bedtime to deal with.
Do you give your little one a dummy? If so have you been met with any criticism?
