Which is harder - Babies or Toddlers?

Wednesday, 8 March 2017  |  Mummy and Little Me

This post isn't meant to be taken seriously it's all a bit tongue in cheek and I'm sure that a lot of you can relate.

Recently at playgroup one of us was minding a little baby and getting all broody whilst the mother had nipped off to the loo and I said 'wasn't it easy looking after a little baby compared to our boisterous toddlers now?' and we all agreed that it was so it inspired me to write this post. I know there are a lot of ways that a toddler is easier to look after than a baby too but here are some ways where I think it's harder to parent a toddler.

They no longer nap! - Gone are those precious couple of hours in the day where I could eat alone, tidy up, read a magazine with a brew in peace not having to re-read the same sentence about a million times.
Everything that I now watch on TV has to have subtitles on or I won't have a clue whats going on over the 30th rendition of 'Daddy Finger'.
They no longer want to go in their pram but you still need to take it with you because they can't yet walk that far and you can't carry them because your back still isn't recovered from having them 2 and a half years ago. So they soon get tired of walking and they throw a huge public fit if you try to get them back in their pram so you end up having a stand-off in the street whilst feeling lot's of judgey stares.
You can never have a bath/shower or go to the toilet alone again. This was cute at first as she would like to breastfeed in the bath and it was a nice bonding time but it's difficult to shave with a little one in the tub.
The main biggie is that they are mobile!, it was easy when Sophia was a baby and even though I didn't think so at the time I really miss just being able to lie her down on her playmat or in her bouncer whilst I made a quick brew and have the peace of mind knowing that she would still be there when I got back. Those days are long gone as at 2 years old she can open the baby stair gate by herself so I have no way of containing her. Not long after she started walking she knocked over our 50" LCD TV and smashed the screen. Tip - make sure that you have contents insurance!.

Yes having a toddler is harder in some ways but in other ways it's also a lot better. I have serious respect for parents who have more than one child as parenting just the one keeps me on my toes but of course I would do it all again. - Jodie x
