When is good time to potty train

Joey turned two nearly 3 months ago and i don't have any plans to potty train him anytime soon. I do feel a bit of a bad mum because he isn't anywhere near potty trained but i know it's not important just yet. So when is the best time to start?

This week in the media you may have seen that Holly Willoughby's youngest is now potty trained and he's not even 2 yet. I'm so envious of any parent who manages to nail potty training before they're two years old. Because of Joey's lack of speech and communication i feel like it would be impossible to even attempt to try and know when he needs the toilet. We already have a basic potty in the house for him and whenever he sees it he just stands in it instead of on it. I've heard about other children under the age of 2 have completely nailed the potty and don't need nappies. When Joey has ever been nappy free for more than just a nappy change, he has had accidents, which is completely fine. Even when i can tell he’s having a poo i ask him “Are you having a poo Joey?” and he just stares at me and goes quiet.

I wouldn't be surprised if it took another year for us to start potty training him. Getting rid of the nappies would be amazing though as he's become a bit of a kicker when i try and change his nappy. I know that Joey doesn’t enjoy wearing nappies, he would be happier to not have to wear anything but because he wouldn’t be able to communicate with us when he needs the toilet it would be so difficult. When the time comes though I’m sure we will get through it just fine.

So that’s why we aren’t attempting potty training yet, parents know when it’s the right time and for me I don’t think he’s ready just yet.
Is their an ideal age for potty training your child?
